Refs still seeking pay agreement

The Scottish Premier League expect a financial deal to be struck with referees amid claims match officials are considering strike action.

Referees are reportedly asking for £1,000 to take charge of a match in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, which kicks off on Saturday.

They received £575 per game last season and their fees have been index-linked in recent years, but they are apparently seeking a major increase this season.

No deal has been struck with days left before the season kicks off.

An SPL spokesman said: "A series of discussions have taken place and we expect the matter to be resolved soon."
