Reid set for Thailand post

Former Manchester City manager Peter Reid is set to take over as boss of the Thailand national team.

President of the Thai Football Association Worawi Makudi confirmed he had agreed terms on a four-year contract with Reid's agent Mike Morris, which the 52-year-old will sign next month.

"Our discussion went very well. We added some work for Reid apart from being in charge of the national team," Worawi told the Bangkok Post. "This will be good for Reid because we want him to see players not only in Bangkok but also in the provinces."

No decision has yet been made regarding Reid's backroom staff due to financial constraints.

"We have a limited budget," Worawi added. "We will consider hiring his staff later."

Reid, who also had spells in charge of Sunderland, Leeds and Coventry, will begin his new role on September 1 and will initially take charge of the Under-19 team for the AFC Under-19 Championship in Saudi Arabia in November before leading the senior side at the King's Cup and Asean Football Championships at the end of the year.
