Rennie to sit out season

Edinburgh flanker Ross Rennie has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing his second knee operation in nine months.

The 22-year-old, who only returned from a seven-month lay-off in October, was given the news following exploratory surgery in London.

Head coach Andy Robinson said in the Daily Mail: "We have been told that Ross will have a long period of recuperation and will not be available to us for the rest of the season. Ross is a very important player for us and will be a big miss."

Rennie had been tipped to earn a call-up for Scotland's RBS 6 Nations campaign.

Edinburgh and Scotland captain Mike Blair said: "This is a big blow for Ross. He was a key guy for us last season.

"He has not been completely comfortable when he has been playing this year and maybe he wasn't feeling good after his first knee operation back in March.

"He has been performing to an impressive level but he told us he wasn't at the level he wanted to be and couldn't do all the stuff he wanted to.

"I'm sure he can come back as good, if not even better, than he was last season."
