Rhinos' relief after Bulls charge

27 January 2009
The Bulls hit back from 16-2 down to take the lead at Headingley Carnegie but a superb late try from Rob Burrow ended their revival. Scott Donald then added another in injury time as the champions finished 33-20 winners.
McClennan said: "We got off to a good start but then Bradford came back really well. But in the end we came away with a good win. I like the way we finished."
He added: "They got a bit of ball and were very good with it, attacking our line. They played well, it was a derby match and they really got up for it.
"We were really strong in the first 10 and to come back from that was good. I think Bradford did a pretty good job."
The Rhinos looked well on course for victory after two tries from Ryan Hall and another from Jamie Jones-Buchanan. But the Bulls began their fightback through Semi Tadulala before Paul Deacon and Steve Menzies gave them hope of a stunning victory.
That was extinguished by Burrow and a Lee Smith drop goal but the Bulls felt aggrieved when Rikki Sheriffe was denied a late try out wide.
The winger felt he had got the ball down before being bundled into touch and coach Steve McNamara felt the incident backs up calls for video referees at all games. Unusually, the clash of the West Yorkshire giants was not chosen for live TV coverage.
McNamara said: "He was adamant he scored the try, his technique was great for it. That is an extremely tough decision but if there had been a video referee we'd have been a lot clearer.
"I am a massive fan of the video ref and I wish there had been one here."
