Rhinos wait on injured trio

Leeds coach Tony Smith faces a nervous wait after a trio of players, including Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock, went off injured in his side's 54-8 rout of Catalans Dragons.

The Rhinos climbed two points clear at the engage Super League summit but Smith's mood was darkened by the triple injury blow as Ashley Gibson, Danny McGuire and Peacock, who limped off with an ankle injury, all picked up knocks.

Smith said: "We lost JP after a couple of minutes and then later on we lost Ashley and then Danny. We were down to one substitute at the end and we'll have to wait and see what the physio says now. JP's was an ankle injury but we're still hearing what the problems were with the other injuries."

The injuries overshadowed another powerful Leeds display which saw Brent Webb scored a classic hat-trick of tries to take his tally for the season to nine.

The leaders claimed three first-half tries, two coming from Webb and one from Clinton Toopi after Catalans opened the scoring through Olivier Charles.

And they ran in a further six after the break, with Webb completing his hat-trick and skipper Kevin Sinfield (2), Gareth Ellis, Rob Burrow and Scott Donald also touching down.

Sinfield converted all nine of his side's tries as Leeds erased the pain of their shock 30-22 loss to Catalans in Perpignan back in February.

Smith added: "We were a bit disappointed with our first half performance. Not just points-wise, but the intensity wasn't there and it was probably the slowest game of rugby league I've seen for a long time."

Smith also reserved special praise for Webb, adding: "He was outstanding and what a great support player he is. He's a terrific player and he's world class."
