Rio nearly ready to sign

Rio Ferdinand has revealed there are still one or two issues to iron out before he signs a new contract at Manchester United.

The 29-year-old's representative, Pini Zahavi, this week claimed Ferdinand had agreed a five-year deal thought to be worth £130,000 a week.

Ferdinand told MUTV: "It's nearly signed, nearly. We are still talking over a couple of things but I'm sure it will be sorted out before the end of the season."

He added: "It will be a proud day for me, definitely, when I do sign a new contract."

The England defender insists he has no desire to play anywhere other than Old Trafford.

"I'm enjoying my time at United, I love being here and that's not changed," he declared.

"Being part of a successful team is great and to be part of the tradition that goes along with that is an honour in itself.

"To have the opportunity to stay here for another four or five years would be fantastic."
