Robinho plans to face Magpies

Manchester City star Robinho expects to face Newcastle at Eastlands next week.

City are not in action until January 28 due to their FA Cup demise, by which time the £32.5million British record signing will have had a chance to offer Mark Hughes and executive chairman Garry Cook an explanation for his departure from City's warm weather training camp in Tenerife.

Robinho has cited 'a family matter' and claimed he informed the Blues of his exit plans. Quotes on his official website - attributed to "sources close to Robinho" - said he is "very happy" and has "no intention of leaving his new home" and also comments: "He will for sure be playing on Wednesday against Newcastle and, as usual he will give his all to help the club to achieve victory."

It continued: "He is very motivated and says he wants to be the league's top scorer. Therefore, while in Brazil with the family, he will be exercising and keeping fit for the upcoming match."

Cook, however, feels a breach of club discipline has occurred, for which Robinho can expect to receive a fine unless his version of events deems the move unnecessary.

Yet, even though the Blues missed out in their audacious approach for former world player of the year Kaka and rumours of a summer move to Chelsea continue, it seems the player remains committed to City.

Robinho has also made clear his unscheduled journey had nothing to do with Kaka's rejection of City's mammoth offer to join his fellow Brazilian at Eastlands.

"It is important to underline that I did not return to Brazil because of the Kaka deal," he said.

"He is one of my good friends and it would have been great to see him at Manchester City - but it had nothing to do with his decision to stay in Milan."
