Robinho ready for cup clash

Record signing Robinho has been passed fit for Manchester City's last-16 UEFA Cup tie against Aalborg at Eastlands on Thursday.

Robinho returned to Brazil for treatment on an ankle injury at the end of last week but has been able to train since returning and manager Mark Hughes is prepared to place his trust in the £32.5million man.

"Robinho has trained all week. He looks fit and will be available," said Hughes. "He has suffered this injury twice, basically when he goes over on it it aggravates an old injury.

Hughes added: "It is not a major concern but there was a chance that he wouldn't be available on Thursday so we are thankful it's not the case."

With Craig Bellamy missing, City will be relying on Robinho to provide their major attacking threat against Aalborg, the third Danish team they have faced in the competition.

Hughes expects Thursday's opponents to be a step up in standard, having already held Manchester United to a draw at Old Trafford in the Champions League earlier this season and defeated highly-rated Spanish outfit Deportivo La Coruna in the last round.

"Robinho has the ability to unlock the door," Hughes added. "Sometimes in Europe defences can be very hard to break down. You might need a flash of inspiration or a piece of brilliance. Robinho can do that for you."
