Robins back in second

Bristol City moved back into second place in the Coca-Cola Championship - but they were made to fight all the way in a 2-1 win over Southampton at Ashton Gate.

The Robins, who went into the fixture having lost just once in 11 games following promotion from League One, opened the scoring after just four minutes through Darren Byfield before Ivan Sproule added a second in the 17th minute with his first goal for the club.

Southampton, having triumphed in each of the sides' last four meetings, got themselves back into the game nine minutes into the second half when Jamie McAllister put through his own net.

Meanwhile Jody Craddock's header moved Wolves into third after they fought back to defeat Cardiff 3-2 at Ninian Park.

The Wanderers defender rose highest to meet Jay Bothroyd's 74th-minute corner to give Mick McCarthy's side a third straight victory.

Michael Kightly had twice netted for the visitors either side of a four-minute brace from City's veteran strike duo Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
