Robinson delighted with victory

Victorious Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson admitted his side had come of age as pro players in the wake of their 17-12 success against Leicester in the Heineken Cup which forced the east midlanders out of the competition.

The Tigers needed a bonus-point win to keep alive their quarter-final qualification hopes - but the home side deserved their 2-0 try-count success as Phil Godman and Ross Ford touched down.

The former England supremo declared: "It was one of the best performances since I came to the club and the fact that it was against one of the strongest teams in Europe made it all the more special."

He added: "We were nervy in the first 20 minutes, then everything went right in the second half. We put pressure on them in the set-piece and could have scored two or three more tries, such were the chances we created.

"There was no problem getting the guys lifted in the build-up to the game - every time they pull on an Edinburgh jersey now it is a crucial game.

"They understand that it is a question of being a professional, knowing the importance of every match. It is a question of performing every time.

"The crowd also made a tremendous difference. The players know if they make a mistake, they will keep on backing them."

Leicester's points came from four Andy Goode penalties and downcast coach Marcelo Loffreda said: "Obviously we are bitterly disappointed."

And hinting that his players may have panicked in the later stages, he added: "We had three penalties in the last 10 minutes, yet didn't go for goal with a single one.

"This was a game we could have won and if we had kicked a couple of goals in that period we could have put pressure on Edinburgh and the result might have been very different."
