Robinson: I was desperate to play

Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes he has answered his critics again by getting straight back into action against Anorthosis Famagusta rather than taking the week off as planned.

Robinson made two mistakes during the 4-4 Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Monday and wanted to atone for his performance immediately. He had no chance with Famagusta's goal in Larnaca, with Robbie Keane levelling the second leg to send Spurs through 7-2 on aggregate.

"I wasn't going to play; I wasn't even going to travel," said the England goalkeeper. "But after the way I played against Aston Villa I wanted get a game under my belt as quickly as possible. I was disappointed with that performance and the best thing to do is to play the next game."

Robinson, 27, has made high-profile blunders for England but still has a great record in recent qualifiers.

"It is how you react and come back from the mistakes that is important," Robinson added.

"The criticism is always harsh but if you are a goalkeeper and you make mistakes you are going to get criticised. If you are England's goalkeeper the criticism is going to be worse. I made a mistake, I am a human being and everybody makes mistakes.

"I have got a good family around me; I surround myself with good people, people who I care about and people whose opinion matters to me."
