Robson defeated by Pervak

Laura Robson missed out on her second junior grand slam title after losing 6-3 6-1 to Russian Ksenia Pervak in the final of the girls' singles at the Australian Open on Saturday.

The junior Wimbledon champion said after her semi-final win against top seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn that she was feeling low on energy and she made a sluggish start to the first set and from there never really recovered.

Pervak, the third seed, broke the 15-year-old six times in the match on the Rod Laver Arena show court taking just 74 minutes to seal the win.

Robson was broken twice early in the opening set to trail 3-0 and although she dug deep to claw her way back to 4-3 she squandered three break point opportunities in the next game which allowed Pervak to hold for a 5-3 lead.

Robson then served two double faults - her fourth and fifth of the match -on the way to being broken for a third time which handed her opponent the first set.

The second set started just as the first had, with Robson trailing 3-0 early on.

She was down again in her next service game but simply could not conjure up the winners to deny the Russian a 4-0 advantage.

With hopes of a win starting to fade, Robson's grim determination earned her the break of serve against Pervak to get on the board.

But any hopes of a comeback were short-lived as the Russian broke her again to take a 5-1 lead and from there served out the match.
