Rocket man Trumped by Judd

Ronnie O'Sullivan crashed out of this year's Royal London Watches Grand Prix after a shock defeat to teenage qualifier Judd Trump.

'The Rocket' went down to a surprise 5-4 loss at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre having let slip a 3-2 lead against his 19-year-old opponent from Bristol.

Trump, the world number 41, might have easily crumbled playing in the first ranking quarter-final of his career, especially against the current world champion and world number one. But instead the youngster raised his game to clinch the "biggest win of my career" at this year's £502,100 event.

Elsewhere, Ali Carter, last season's beaten Crucible finalist, beat four-time Grand Prix winner Steve Davis 5-3 thanks to breaks of 99 and 90.

Carter will face Ryan Day who turned on the style in the evening session to beat Jamie Cope and book his place in the semi-finals.

Day cruised to a impressive 5-1 victory with breaks of 120, 112, 85 and 74 having slipped 1-0 behind to his Stoke opponent.

And John Higgins, a three-time Grand Prix winner, clinched his place in the last four with a 5-3 victory over Ding Junhui, the Sheffield-based Chinese cueman.

Higgins, the world number five, lost the opening frame, but two breaks of 71 and some excellent tactical play made sure the last standing Scottish hope progressed.

Junhui, a three-time ranking event champion, pocketed runs of 78, 62, 66 and 59, but it is Higgins who will face Trump in the first of Saturday's semi-finals.
