Rooney in line for early comeback

Wakefield will welcome back England stand-off Jamie Rooney earlier than expected from a torn calf muscle injury.

The Super League's player of the month for February has given the club a boost by making a rapid recovery from the injury he sustained in the Wildcats' win over Warrington just 10 days ago, and has been cleared to face Bradford at Belle Vue on Monday.

"He's an even-money chance for Friday (against Huddersfield) and a certainty for Monday," said coach John Kear. "The physio has done a great job with him but he is a very determined kid."

He added: "Because he's so important to us, we are going to give him as long as he wants."
