While Scotland have managed only one victory in four games this championship, Rowntree has been impressed by their forward play in general and their scrummaging in particular.

Rowntree, who won 54 caps and played 398 games at the coal-face for Leicester, said: "There are not many bigger packs around the world than Scotland and what they did to Ireland and Italy, and indeed to South Africa and New Zealand in the autumn, shows their forward play, not just their scrummaging, has really improved. We have got to be switched on there."

He added: "I don't see any weakness with them and I am a big fan of Euan Murray. There are Lions battles everywhere this weekend.

"We have got to match their passion and everything they will bring to those set-pieces. They are a big outfit. It will be a good challenge."
