Rudolph opens way for England move

Former South Africa batsman Jacques Rudolph has committed himself to Yorkshire for a further four seasons, opening up the possibility of representing England in future.

The 26-year-old made a big impression at the county, topping Yorkshire's first-class and one-day averages, after controversially moving to Headingley Carnegie on a Kolpak deal last season.

Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan said: "The longer deal allows Jacques the potential opportunity to qualify for and go on to represent England in the future. This is a significant development in Jacques career. He is here for the long-term and the club is delighted to have him playing for the White Rose."

Rudolph's Kolpak signing at the beginning of last season caused controversy because, having played international cricket in the previous 12 months, his signing contravened England and Wales Cricket Board regulations on Kolpak players but Yorkshire proved the rules unenforceable by law.

But to play as a non-overseas player, Rudolph had to forgo the chance to represent South Africa for the duration of his contract.

Rudolph, who has played 35 Tests for South Africa, is currently in his homeland playing domestic cricket for the Eagles.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my first season with Yorkshire, both on and off the pitch," said Rudolph, whose wife is to move back to England with him next year.

"Everything about the club is professional, supportive and focused on getting results.

"I'm really pleased to have signed the new contract and look forward to seeing the Yorkshire lads again in March next year for pre-season training. We can then concentrate on winning some matches and trophies for Yorkshire."
