Ryan plays down Tindall fears

Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan has played down any immediate injury worries surrounding England centre Mike Tindall.

Tindall, a candidate for England's RBS 6 Nations squad to be announced on January 9, lasted just 13 minutes of Gloucester's 27-0 Guinness Premiership victory over west country rivals Bristol after suffering a leg injury - he was replaced by Leon Lloyd who went on to score two tries as Gloucester opened up a five-point lead at the top.

But Ryan said: "We are not overly concerned about Mike. We will see how he is in 24 hours. He has had a bang on his leg, which has given him some nerve reaction."

Gloucester shrugged off Tindall's departure to make it eight wins from nine league starts this term, brushing aside a spirited, if limited, Bristol outfit.

Leading 15-0 at the break, Gloucester confirmed their five-point maximum with some 16 minutes still remaining as Lloyd added to his first-half touchdown, while hooker Olivier Azam and wing James Simpson-Daniel also crossed.

Simpson-Daniel marked his 100th Premiership appearance by scorching over from 50 metres, then Lloyd's second score ended any hopes of a Bristol fightback.

Ryan added: "We looked very complete, and we took our opportunities. There was a maturity about how to impose ourselves on the game. In performance terms, at the end of the year, I am pretty pleased."

Bristol, after back-to-back Heineken Cup wins against Harlequins and a Premiership draw with European champions Wasps, found the trip to Kingsholm a game too far. And it was a fact readily acknowledged by their head coach Richard Hill.

Hill said: "We decided to play against the wind in the first half, but at 15-0 down it became a bit of a struggle after that. We gifted them a couple of silly tries and conceded a lot of soft penalties.

"All round, we weren't quite to our normal standard. We've had some tough matches, and today might have been a game too far. We caught Gloucester on a good day, and we just didn't have enough in the tank."
