Safin will take on four-time champion Roger Federer in the last 32 after beating Pakistan's Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in straight sets in the second round.
"For me it's another opportunity to play a great match," added the 27-year-old from Moscow. "For me it's a huge challenge, Centre Court against Federer. He's playing pretty well. He's playing great tennis."
He added: "If I want to have a chance at least to be close to beating him, I have to put up my best game, go for it. Also I have nothing to lose because he's the favourite here. Today I played well, moved quite well. I'm looking forward for the match."
Spain's Tommy Robredo became the highest seed to fall so far, the 11th seed losing in straight sets to veteran Australian Wayne Arthurs.
But elsewhere there were victories for Ivan Ljubicic, Tommy Haas, James Blake, Dmitry Tursunov, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Jarkko Nieminen and Jonas Bjorkman.
Second seed Rafael Nadal enjoyed an easy passage into the third round with a straight sets victory over Austrian Werner Eschauer.
Nadal actually lost the first two games in the first set but roared back to take the next six in a row.
The French Open champion was in total command from then on, eventually winning 6-2 6-4 6-1 on centre court.
