Safin too strong for Vicente

Marat Safin secured his place in the second round of the French Open at Roland Garros with a routine victory on Sunday.

Safin, the 22nd seed from Russia, looked in fine shape as he wrapped up a 6-1 6-3 6-1 win over Spain's Fernando Vicente in just one hour and 25 minutes.

In the final set, Safin was forced to play in the rain, which is forecast to stay for the next five days, but he still had far too much in his locker for Vicente.
