Great Britain full-back Wellens, 27, who will next season celebrate 10 years in the Saints first team, has committed himself to the club until the end of the 2010 campaign.
Roby, 21, has signed a new four-year deal, having made a huge impact as an interchange hooker with the Knowsley Road club.
Wellens has long been recognised as the country's best in his position, while rising star Roby has been attracting envious glances from other clubs. The pair also shone in Great Britain's recent series win over New Zealand.
Saints chairman Eamon McManus said: "I'm sure this announcement will come as a great early Christmas present for all Saints fans.
"There was significant interest in James, which is understandable as he is one of the hottest properties in the game.
"Therefore, we are delighted to have secured his services for another four years.
"Paul has established himself as the best full-back in the game and will continue to play a pivotal role as the club moves forward."
