The City Reds will open talks with Catalans Dragons in an effort to extend the stay of Berthezene, 26, whose loan spell expired after their 35-18 defeat by Hull.
"We're trying to extend his contract but it's up to the Catalans," said coach Karl Harrison. "He has gone really well for us, he's a good player and he wants to stay."
Alker, who missed four matches after tearing medial knee ligaments against Wigan a month ago, lasted just 12 minutes of his comeback against Hull and will see a specialist to determine the exact nature of the injury.
"He's had a scan and it's not great," added Harrison. "It's definitely not the same injury but he's damaged part of his knee.
"The surgeon will let us know more but he's certainly not ruptured it again so it could have been worse."
