Salford swoop for Swain

Gold Coast Titans back-row forward Luke Swain has become Salford City Reds' third capture in as many weeks from Australia's National Rugby League as coach Shaun McRae bolsters his squad for their return to Super League.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Reds and will join North Queensland prop Ray Cashmere and South Sydney half-back Jeremy Smith at Salford in 2009.

Swain was a member of Penrith's Grand Final-winning team in 2003 before joining the Titans in 2007.

Salford director of football Steve Simms said: "Luke is a quality back-rower and has played in the NRL for many years, so he will be bringing plenty of experience to the team next year."

Salford, who have been awarded a three-year Super League licence from 2009, will be presented with the National League One leaders' shield at the end of their home game against Batley on Sunday.
