Sanders and Ohuruogu storm into final

Great Britain duo Nicola Sanders and Christine Ohuruogu powered into Wednesday's 400metres final after convincingly posting lifetime bests at the World Championships in Osaka.

Sanders became only the fourth Briton to run a sub-50 time after winning her semi-final in 49.77 seconds, and Ohuruogu continued her impressive comeback from a 12-month ban for missing three out-of-competition drug tests to post 50.16secs.

Commonwealth Games champion Phillips Idowu struggled to sixth place in the triple jump final after managing just 17.09 metres, while Andy Baddeley produced a storming final 100m to secure a place in Wednesday's 1,500m final.

European Indoor champion Sanders clocked the second fastest semi-final time behind Jamaica's Novlene Williams to smash her previous personal best of 50.68secs, while Ohuruogu looked a convincing winner of her semi-final.

"I could not have asked for better," said Sanders.

"I was injured earlier in the season and it wasn't going great. But I think that was a blessing in disguise and I'm just coming into some form, so to run a PB and get into the final is fantastic.

"The main event is in two days' time so I have got to get ready for that now."
