Santa Cruz: My future is in England

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz insists he would only quit Ewood Park for another Barclays Premier League club.

The Paraguay international, who is currently out of action with a muscle tear in his shin, has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City in next month's transfer window, although Real Madrid are also reported to be interested in the former Bayern Munich player.

The 27-year-old told Radio Primero de Mayo: "I would like to stay in England. I like this league. It is one of the most competitive in the world."

Of speculation surrounding his future, he added: "I have nothing to do with the offers. They are made to the club and the directors deal with them and make a decision."

Santa Cruz expects to return to action on January 17, when Rovers play Newcastle in the Premier League.

"This weekend there are no league games, as the (FA) Cup is being played. I think I will miss the next weekend's game and be fit for the following one," he said.
