Savage setback for Rovers

Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage has undergone knee surgery and has been ruled out of action for between five and six weeks.

Savage is Rovers' only new injury for Wednesday's Carling Cup fourth round tie at Portsmouth after he limped out of Sunday's Barclays Premier League win at Tottenham.

Manager Mark Hughes will rotate his squad for the Fratton Park clash with matches against Liverpool and Manchester United on the horizon.

The game comes too soon for both Steven Reid and Jason Roberts, although the former is continuing to build up his match fitness.
