Saxons chief to discuss Ellis plans

England Saxons coach Stuart Lancaster will speak to Martin Johnson to discuss Harry Ellis after the Leicester scrum-half touched down twice in Friday's 10-try rout of Portugal at Edgeley Park.

Ellis, returned to action after serving a six-week suspension for a spear tackle on Dan Carter during a Heineken Cup defeat at Perpignan in November. Keen to make up for lost time, and with the RBS 6 Nations starting next weekend, Ellis stated his case for a recall to the senior side by touching down in the 21st minute and adding another shortly before half-time as the Saxons won 66-0.

Lancaster said: "I've got to speak to Jonno over the weekend but there's a chance he (Ellis) could play for us again next weekend against Ireland A."

He added: "It was a quick-tempo game and Harry showed what he can do.

"He used the six weeks to work on his conditioning and with another game behind him in Donnybrook next week, it will obviously be a sterner challenge for him.

"That will set him up nicely and leave the senior coaches with a decision to make."

Lancaster also paid tribute to Nick Abendanon after the Bath full-back claimed the man-of-the-match award with an impressive performance.

"I thought Nick was extremely sharp and every time he got the ball he was a threat with the ball in hand," said Lancaster.

"He's been good all week and we asked him to back up and perform after playing for Bath against Toulouse in the Heineken Cup and he's done that."
