Sbragia expects even more from Jones

Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia has warned the Barclays Premier League there is a lot more to come from striker Kenwyne Jones after seeing him ease the club further away from trouble.

The 24-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international did not turn in a vintage performance just hours after signing a new four and a half-year contract. However, he was in the right place at the right time when Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer could only parry Djibril Cisse's 55th-minute drive and claimed not only his eighth goal of the season, but a first win in five attempts in the league.

"He has got a lot to learn, but he will be a handful, but there are not many people his size in the Premier League," said Sbragia. "He is a target man and he is willing to learn, that's the good thing about him."

He added: "In his mind, he feels right, but there is a lot still to come from him. He probably might not realise it's there, but potential-wise, there is an awful lot more to come."

Schwarzer's block from Cisse was one of a string of fine saves he made on the night as he was too often left exposed by his defenders.

He denied Jones twice, Cisse and Steed Malbranque as the Black Cats emerged from a poor first-half display to put the visitors under pressure after the break.

The win was only their fourth at home in the league this season, and could hardly have come at a better time with Sunday's derby trip to Newcastle now the main focus.

Sbragia said: "I was pleased we won 1-0 and got the three points. I am not that concerned about how we played.

"The three points are really important to the club."
