Schuster surprised by England link

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster has admitted his 'surprise' at being linked with the England manager's job.

Reports in Spain have claimed that the German is among those being considered by the Football Association to replace Steve McClaren, who sacked in the wake of England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

Quizzed on the reports, Schuster said: "We will leave it there, things get published every day. But it surprised me to be mentioned."

The 47-year-old was appointed at the Bernabeu this summer following the sacking of Fabio Capello - who has also been linked to the England post - after a successful spell in charge at La Liga minnows Getafe.
