Seeds progress at Roland Garros

Three of the dark horses for the women's title at this year's French Open progressed comfortably through to the second round on Tuesday.

In-form Serbian Jelena Jankovic, the fourth seed, thrashed Frenchwoman Stephanie Foretz 6-2 6-2 on the Suzanne Lenglen court.

Sixth seed Nicole Vaidisova, the prodigious 18-year-old talent from the Czech Republic, defeated Emmanuelle Gigliardi of Switzerland 6-4 6-3, while 13th seed Elena Dementieva of Russia overcame Germany's Angelique Kerber 6-3 6-2.

Dementieva, the runner-up in 2004, and Jankovic are scheduled to meet in the quarter-finals.
