Senior extends Rhinos deal

Leeds Rhinos' veteran centre Keith Senior, one of only five men to have played in every season of Super League, has signed a new contract which will keep him at Headingley until the end of 2010.

The 33-year-old, who is set to make his 300th appearance for Leeds against Hull on Tuesday, was out of contract this year but retired from international rugby after the World Cup in order to prolong his domestic career.

"It is good to see that the club have shown faith in me by offering me this new deal," said Senior, who joined the Rhinos from Sheffield Eagles 10 years ago.

"People go on about age but I feel as young as ever. Retiring from international rugby will mean I can have my first proper pre-season in my career this winter and that will be important for me."

Only 25 players have played 300 or more games for Leeds and Senior's 150 touchdowns make him the 11th most prolific try-scorer in the club's history.

"It is an incredible achievement," said Leeds coach Brian McClennan. "Keith is an evergreen. He is still a strike player for us and, when you need something special in a game, the ball gets to him and opportunities happen on the back of what Keith does.

"He is a terrific trainer with a great attitude. He is part of the senior group of players who help run things at the Rhinos but there is still a lot of football to come from him.

"He looks after himself and is still a strong, fast and powerful athlete.

"He will benefit from the rest he will get in the off season this year and we will all see the benefits of that rest next year."
