Senior stars in Leeds win
16 January 2007
Injury-hit Warrington trailed only 12-10 until just before the break but the Rhinos ran out comfortable winners, romping over for nine tries, eight converted by skipper Kevin Sinfield.
Warrington welcomed back Ben Westwood from a two-match suspension but were missing Paul Johnson, Michael Sullivan, Chris Bridge, Chris Leikvoll, Adrian Morley, Rob Parker, Paul Wood and their inspirational captain Lee Briers.
The Wolves handed 21-year old Anthony Jerram his debut with teenagers Ben Harrison, Chris Riley and Mike Cooper in their depleted line-up.
Leeds were without Ali Lauitiiti, injured in Tuesday's last-gasp home defeat by Wigan and dropped ex-New Zealand Test centre Clinton Toopi for the first time.
But Warrington's enthusiasm earned them the opening try after 16 minutes when Jon Clarke and Martin Gleeson combined for Westwood to mark his return to go over and then land the touchline conversion for good measure.
Leeds, after their slow start, began to make inroads into the Wolves defence and drew level after half an hour with Sinfield's pass enabling Gareth Ellis to brush off Stuart Reardon.
Leeds managed to lead 18-10 at the break with Senior shrugging off Paul Rauhihi and Danny McGuire scooting clear to send Scott Donald over.
Leeds refused to take their foot off the pedal late on, with Jamie Thackray's break allowing Robert Burrow to race onto McGuire's kick for his second try to make it 52-10 five minutes from time.
