Sexton inspires Leinster to victory

An assured kicking display from Jonathan Sexton and three tries drove Leinster to a deserved 36-13 win over Brive at the Stade Municipal.

The defending Heineken Cup champions' first win in Pool Six was founded on Sexton's kicking haul of 19 points, with the tries coming from Lions full-back Rob Kearney and young replacement Kevin McLaughlin, who bagged a late double.

England fly-half Andy Goode landed two first-half penalties for Brive, whose best moment came after the hour mark when their South African flanker Gerhard Vosloo scored a converted try.

But it was Scarlets who went top of the group with a rollercoaster 27-25 triumph over London Irish sealed by Stephen Jones' last-gasp penalty.

Trailing 21-18 with 15 minutes to go, prolific Samoan winger Sailosi Tagicakibau ran in his seventh try of the season to give the Exiles sight of victory.

However, with little over a minute remaining on the clock, substitute Peter Richards conceded a penalty in front of the posts and Jones landed the decisive kick.

In Pool 4, late scores by Tim Visser and Phil Godman ensured Edinburgh claimed their first win of this season's Heineken Cup campaign as they came from behind to secure a 17-13 victory over Ulster.

With just over 10 minutes remaining Visser went over for an unconverted try before Godman sealed victory with a last-minute penalty.
