The Ospreys led 8-6 at the break, despite having tryscorer Jerry Collins and prop Duncan Jones sin-binned, Sexton kicking Leinster's points.
But Sexton added three further penalties and Isa Nacewa slotted a drop goal to open up a seven-point gap, and the Ospreys could find no way through.
Phil Godman's drop goal eight minutes from time saw Edinburgh retain their place at the top of the table with a 16-13 victory over Ulster.
Tries from Lions flanker Stephen Ferris and full-back Clinton Schifcofske gave Ulster a 13-7 lead, Dutch wing Tim Visser crossing for the Gunners.
Full-back Chris Paterson kicked two penalties for the visitors to bring the scores level before fly-half Godman struck to secure the win.
Newport Gwent Dragons ended Glasgow's unbeaten start to the season as they claimed a 30-19 bonus point win at Rodney Parade.
Tries from fly-half James Arlidge, full-back Jason Tovey and wing Aled Brew put the hosts 22-16 up at the break, Colin Shaw crossing for Glasgow.
Dan Parks fifth penalty of the night moved the visitors within two points but centre Ashley Smith went over to make sure of the victory.
Elsewhere, Cardiff's poor start to the season continued as Connacht picked up an 18-16 win in Galway.
