Shakib hits Black Caps for six

The hosts had earlier set a modest total of 245 at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium but only Daniel Vettori offered any resistance as the Black Caps collapsed to 155 for nine at stumps.

Vettori was unbeaten on 48 and he will shoulder the responsibility on Sunday as the tourists aim to quickly rattle off some of the 90 runs needed to level Bangladesh's first-innings total.

Jamie How was the first man to fall to Shakib for 16, Rajin Saleh taking the catch at silly point, while Jesse Ryder was Shakib's next victim just two overs later as Saleh - this time at short leg - again held on.

Ross Taylor lasted just 22 deliveries and added 12 to the tourists' total before he was trapped lbw by Abdur Razzak to leave New Zealand floundering on 46 for three.

And Aaron Redmond's laborious 65-ball 19 was brought to an end just three overs later when left-arm spinner Shakib trapped him in front. New Zealand struggled to 57 for four at tea.

Daniel Flynn added 19 but then edged Naeem Islam's delivery to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, and Shakib struck again to remove Brendon McCullum for 25, the New Zealander slicing to Razzak at mid on.

Jacob Oram, who had performed heroics to spare New Zealand's blushes in the recent one-day series, was back in the pavilion four balls later for a duck when he miscued Shakib's delivery into the hands of Mashrafe Mortaza.

Vettori was single-handedly keeping New Zealand's tally ticking over, but he could only watch on as the wickets tumbled at the other end. Kyle Mills (four) became Shakib's sixth victim with another fine edge to Rahim behind the stumps, and Jeehan Patel fell in the last over of the day, pulling his shot from Mohammad Ashraful's delivery to Shakib in the field.

Earlier in the day, Vettori claimed five wickets as Bangladesh added just 62 runs to their overnight total of 183 for four.
