Sharks land McAlister

Sale Sharks have announced the signing of New Zealand centre Luke McAlister on a two-year contract.

McAlister, 23, will join the Guinness Premiership club after the World Cup in France this autumn.

"Luke is one of the best young players in world rugby and can play either 10, 12 or 13," said Sharks rugby director Philippe Saint-Andre. "With Charlie Hodgson and Luke in the side, we have two fantastic playmakers, and his signing is exactly the signing I have been trying to make to help us become a dominant force in northern hemisphere rugby."

McAlister, capped 19 times, lived in Manchester for 10 years while his father Charlie played rugby league for Oldham, Castleford and Sheffield Eagles.

Auckland Blues star McAlister is also a former member of the Manchester United Academy.
