Sharp hails Giants' display

Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp hailed his side's best performance of the season after they ended their 35-year wait for a league win over Bradford.

The Giants claimed an emphatic 36-12 win over a depleted Bulls side at the Galpharm Stadium to extend their winning run to nine matches and climb to fourth place in the engage Super League.

"I thought it was our best performance for a whole host of reasons, not least because we came up against a really good team that were very motivated and proud of a record that has stood for over 20 years," said Sharp. "We played pretty good and looked like a team that is smooth and in a rich vein of form."

Captain Chris Thorman scored 20 points as Huddersfield secured their first win over Bradford since they knocked them out of the Yorkshire Cup 27 years ago and their first in the league since 1972.

Sharp added: "It's been an issue for the people who have been at this club a while and I hope they enjoy a glass of red wine and celebrate but for ourselves we were very much focused on what we needed to do."

Huddersfield never looked back after Brad Drew's kick set up tries for Stephen Wild and John Skandalis in the first quarter and Sharp singled out his makeshift scrum-half for special praise.

"Drewy is playing particularly well," he said. "I've not seen many better players in Super League at the moment. I know they will be talking about Man of Steel shortly and I reckon Brad Drew will be in the conversions.

"He has been very pivotal for us, even when we weren't winning games. He's playing off a great pack who have been dominant all year and who seem to be improving."
