Sharp shoots from the hip

Hull coach Peter Sharp believes his squad now has the experience and stability that it lacked last season.

Sharp's side were hotly tipped going into Super League XII after reaching the 2006 Grand Final but under-achieved after starting the campaign slowly and eventually finished fourth, losing to Wigan in the play-offs.

"We have had to strengthen in some areas but we are pretty happy with our squad," said Sharp. "We have got one or two guys that can play in multiple positions and we have got most areas covered. We are happy with our young brigade and our senior players."

New signings Shaun Berrigan, Adam Dykes and Todd Byrne arrived from Australia late last week and another, Peter Cusack, will join in the new year.

Sharp said: "I was fairly happy with the way we finished and what we achieved considering the stuff that got thrown at us.

"We lost Cookie. He only played a few games and we lost him forever.

"That left a big hole in a side that hadn't got a lot of leadership. That was a big blow for us and we lost Richard Swain, our other main leader, structurally, within the team."
