Shevchenko delighted by Milan return

Andriy Shevchenko admitted he was "really happy" after ending his Chelsea nightmare on Saturday with a move back to AC Milan.

The deal - which is subject to a medical - brings to an end months of speculation linking Shevchenko with a return to the San Siro.

"I'm happy," he told www.acmilan.com. "I have hoped for a return for a while and on Friday I began to believe that this deal could end well."

He added: "For me it is as if I've won the Champions League.

"There were some complications, but now that everything is resolved I am really happy."

Shevchenko will have a medical on Monday and if all goes to plan he will link up with his new team-mates - many of which are familiar faces from two years ago - on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old could make his long-awaited return to the Rossoneri team in the first game of the season - at home to Bologna on August 31.

Chelsea and Milan have refused to disclose details of the deal but reports earlier in the week suggested Shevchenko was set to move on a season-long loan.

The Blues signed the Ukraine international in the summer of 2006 but he failed to live up to his reputation as the world's finest striker.

The former European footballer of the year scored just four league goals in the 2006-07 campaign and five last season as injuries and form undermined his impact in west London.
