Sidebottom inspired Swann

Off-spinner Swann was discarded by previous coach Duncan Fletcher after his one-day international debut against South Africa at Bloemfontein in 2000 and was not called on again.
"I did wonder if it was going to happen, but when your mates start getting picked like Ryan that was when I really started thinking that perhaps I did have a chance of getting back in," revealed Swann.
"He's been performing for Notts for the last three years and we've all been doing the same sort of thing, so seeing Ryan go into the Test team and perform as he did against West Indies made every one of us think and that was certainly the case for me.
"I didn't expect it at the end of the season, I couldn't have been more surprised when David Graveney (chairman of selectors) rang me up. When I missed out on the Twenty20 I thought maybe my time had gone, but when that phone call came it was fabulous."
Having made an instant impression, including a big-turning delivery which beat Kumar Sangakkara with his first ball on Monday, Swann is relishing just being around the environment of the England team.
The mood is more relaxed than the stringent regime favoured by Fletcher and Swann said: "The environment I've walked into now is very laid back and very much like the one I'm used to at Notts where guys know what they need to do and they're trusted to do it.
"It's a very positive environment and it's one I'm thriving in at the moment. I'm really enjoying being around so many talented and positive guys and I hope that's going to rub off and see me through the next few games."
