Simpson-Daniel joins England squad

England head coach Brian Ashton has opted for Simpson-Daniel following confirmation that Harlequins wing David Strettle will not be available for the remaining Six Nations appointments with Scotland and Ireland.
Strettle suffered a foot injury during England's Six Nations opener against Wales last month, and Simpson-Daniel could now press for a first England appearance since the first Test against South Africa in Bloemfontein last summer, when he scored a try.
The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form for Guinness Premiership leaders Gloucester this term, scoring a try during their 30-25 defeat against Harlequins.
And that form means he will come under careful consideration ahead of Ashton announcing his team to play Scotland on Tuesday afternoon.
Simpson-Daniel has won 10 caps, making his Test debut against New Zealand at Twickenham in 2002, scoring three tries during an international career that has been repeatedly blighted by injury setbacks.
Ashton is unlikely to make many changes following the impressive victory over France in Paris eight days ago, but there is mounting speculation that Wasps starlet Danny Cipriani could feature at full-back instead of Simpson-Daniel's Gloucester colleague Iain Balshaw.
Wasps flanker James Haskell will need to prove his fitness after going off in the first half against France suffering from an ankle injury but, if he is ruled out, Leicester's Tom Croft would be favourite to wear the number six shirt and make a full England debut after replacing Haskell at Stade de France.
Ashton named the 30-man training squad on Friday, which included the uncapped Harlequins scrum-half Danny Care but Simpson-Daniel's sudden promotion suggests he could be lined up for a place in the England matchday 22 at Murrayfield.
