Singh sees off Harrington in Singapore

Jeev Milkha Singh out-fought Padraig Harrington in a nervy battle down the closing stretch as the Indian ace claimed a one-stroke victory at the Barclays Singapore Open.

Singh edged a shot ahead at Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong course after the Irishman suffered an unlucky double-bogey at the 16th and took the clubhouse lead when Harrington missed his five-foot birdie attempt at the 18th.

Victory in the US$5 million Asian tour event was confirmed when Ernie Els saw his 15-foot birdie putt at the last stopping on the edge of the cup.

Singh shot a closing two-under 69 to finish on seven-under-par 277, one shot ahead of Harrington, who fired a closing 70, and Els, who shot a level-par 71.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy and David Gleeson of Australia carded 69s to finish tied for fourth on five under with Charlie Wi (72) a further shot back on four under.

Third round leader Chapchai Nirat of Thailand struggled to a closing 78 to finish in a tie for seventh with Thomas Bjorn (74) on three under, one shot ahead of world number three Phil Mickelson, who was alone in ninth on two under.
