Richie Myler, the 19-year-old Salford scrum-half, picked up a deserved man-of-the-match award thanks to his 30-point haul that included a hat-trick of tries and nine conversions. And he was ably assisted by Ryan Atkins, Danny McGuire, Peter Fox (two), Ryan Hall, Shaun Briscoe (two), James Roby and Sam Burgess, who also chipped in with tries in a one-sided mid-season international at the Stade Jean-Bouin.
Smith was delighted with what he saw during the 66-12 rout, saying; "It didn't surprise me - they pretty much played the way they trained all week."
He added: "They've been good off the field and great on the field, so I'm really pleased for them.
"I couldn't have asked for too much more. There were some terrific combinations right across the field."
Bobbie Goulding, the former Great Britain scrum-half who was taking charge of France for the first time, held his head in his hands for most of the match as Smith's men ran riot.
The first half was especially one-sided, England running in eight tries without coming close to conceding.
"That first half was one they'd want to forget," Smith said. "Once we were on that roll, it's difficult to stop with the big team we had out there. I felt for them (France) in that respect.
"But we needed to be professional when that scoreline starts to rack up, and we were."
