Sorry not good enough for Bulls

Even a public apology from referee Steve Ganson failed to quell the anger of Bradford Bulls over their agonising Super League defeat to Leeds.

The St Helens official caused a storm of controversy at the Millennium Stadium when he awarded a last-gasp, match-winning try to Leeds substitute Jordan Tansey instead of referring it to video referee Ashley Klein.

Bradford chairman Peter Hood said: "Whilst Mr Ganson's apology is fine as far as it goes, and gratefully acknowledged, sadly he omits any mention of why the 'penalty' was awarded in the first place and importantly - by whom?"

He added: "We shall be demanding an answer to these and maybe other questions - such as the no small matter of Mr Klein's other contributions to the outcome of game - from RFL match officials director Stuart Cummings."

Slow-motion replays indicated Tansey was clearly offside as he chased captain Kevin Sinfield's penalty kick at goal which rebounded off a post.

On Monday, Ganson admitted he blundered and apologised to the Bulls, whose 42-38 defeat cost them the chance to go the top of the table.

"After reviewing the video footage from the game, it is clear that I made the wrong decision in awarding Jordan Tansey's try," Ganson said.

"In hindsight, I wish I had referred the decision to the video referee.

"I would now like to offer an unreserved apology to all those concerned, especially the players, officials and supporters of the Bradford Bulls."
