Southwell heading to France

Scotland full-back Hugo Southwell will leave Edinburgh this summer after signing a two-year contract with Stade Francais.

The 28-year-old, who has 48 caps, will join international team-mate Simon Taylor at the French side.

Southwell told Stade's official website, www.stade.fr: "Stade Francais are one of Europe's best teams. It is a great experience and a great opportunity for me to come to Paris."

He added: "I am going to discover a new style of play. It is a great challenge in front of me.

"I have spoken about it with Simon Taylor during the Six Nations and he only said good things about the club to me."

Southwell was Scotland's first-choice full-back going into this year's RBS 6 Nations, but by the end of a disappointing championship he lost his place to Edinburgh team-mate Chris Paterson.

He has been at the capital club for six years after previously starring for Bristol and Worcester.
