SPL to investigate pitch invasion

The Scottish Premier League have confirmed they will investigate the ugly scenes which marred Thursday night's Edinburgh derby.

Hearts face action after Derek Riordan's winner for Hibernian sparked a pitch invasion at Tynecastle.

An SPL spokesman told PA Sport: "The first step for us is to review our match delegate's report from the game last night. From there, we will be in touch with both clubs to investigate further."

Several supporters came on to the field as Riordan celebrated the only goal of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash in front of home fans in the Wheatfield Stand.

Hibs defender Ian Murray also told his colleagues he had been struck by a coin in the aftermath of Riordan's 79th minute penalty.

Lothian and Borders Police later revealed two people had been arrested and 15 ejected from the ground during the course of the game, with two people, both male, expected to appear in court in Edinburgh on Friday.
