Sprint stars go head to head in London

World 100metres record-holder Asafa Powell will go head to head with sprint rival Tyson Gay at the Aviva London Grand Prix in July.

American star Gay beat Jamaican Powell for the world title last summer, and on July 25-26 they will meet for their first clash of the summer in what is a coup for the capital event.

With both sprint aces preparing for the Olympic Games, it is likely to be their only meeting before Beijing.

Gay said: "London will be very crucial for me - it is one of the biggest meets of the year right now and that is where it is going down between myself and Asafa.

"He has the title of being the world record-holder and I have the title of being the world champion, and I think that is really good for the sport."

Top Britons Marlon Devonish and Craig Pickering are expected to compete at the meeting which, because of its popularity, is being staged for the first time over two days.
