Spyker appoint Yamamoto

Sakon Yamamoto has been confirmed as Spyker's second driver for the remainder of this season.

Yamamoto replaces Christijan Albers, who was sacked ahead of the European Grand Prix on Sunday following non-payment by one of his personal sponsors.

Test driver Markus Winkelhock was temporarily installed for the race at his home circuit of the Nurburgring in Germany.

Winkelhock even had the honour of leading in the early stages due to the chaos that unfolded following a torrential downpour before retiring with a hydraulic failure on lap 18.

The Dutch team, though, have now turned to the more experienced Yamamoto, whose Formula One career began as test driver for one grand prix weekend in Japan with Spyker's predecessors, Jordan, in 2005.

The 25-year-old was then appointed test driver for Super Aguri midway through last season before stepping into the race seat for the final seven grands prix.

Yamamoto, who will again contest the final seven races this year, said: "I am very pleased to get the opportunity to race in F1 again.

"I know all the circuits we are going to very well, having raced at them with Aguri last year.

"I also know the team from my test in 2005, so I feel ready for the chance."
