Sri Lanka close series with win

Sri Lanka salvaged some pride from their one-day series against Pakistan, winning the third and final match by 115 runs in Abu Dhabi.

Chasing 297 to win, only Shoaib Malik's unbeaten 79 gave the Pakistanis anything to cheer about as they were skittled out for just 181.

Pakistan already held an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, but got off to a poor start in their reply to Sri Lanka's 296 for nine with Salman Butt scoring just two before falling to the bowling of Farveez Maharoof.

Mohammad Hafeez totalled 34 in his second-wicket partnership with Yasir Hameed, but a mix up with his team-mate saw the former run out. And Hameed quickly followed in the next over after pulling a Dilhara Fernando ball to Chamara Kapugedera.

Malik then arrived at the crease, but his partner Mohammad Yousouf (5) was unable to spark Pakistan's innings, while the next man in, Fawad Alam, failed to get on the scoreboard before being caught and bowled by Fernando.

Pakistan were struggling on 68 for five, and Kamran Akmal added to their woes when he made just two runs before falling victim to another run out.

His replacement Abdur Rehman at least managed to hold off the Sri Lankan attack, allowing Malik to stop the rot.

The duo added a seventh-wicket partnership of 44 runs in which Malik fired off his 22nd ODI fifty in 57 balls, including three fours and two sixes.

Rehman contributed little to the run chase however, and fell to the bowling of Kaushal Lokuarachchi for just 10 despite facing 42 balls.

Iftikhar Anjum managed to get 18 runs on the board in another promising partnership with Malik until Lokuarachchi struck again, and it sparked the end of Pakistan's challenge as Mohammad Asif (3) and Najaf Shah (0) soon followed.
