Sri Lankans decide to bat

Sri Lanka chose to bat first on a sunny morning in Jamaica for Tuesday's World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

The 1996 Cup winners chose pace bowler Dilhara Fernando ahead of young all-rounder Farveez Maharoof in a line-up which was otherwise as expected.

Strike bowler Lasith Malinga was back after three matches out with an ankle injury.

New Zealand, meanwhile, chose Jeetan Patel as a second spinner alongside Daniel Vettori in an attack with just two frontline seam bowlers in Shane Bond and James Franklin.

Bond was back after a stomach upset ruled him out of the Kiwis' final Super Eight match against Australia in Grenada - and key all-rounder Jacob Oram was also fit again after being rested with a bruised heel.
