Steyn seals big win for Proteas

Man-of-the-match Dale Steyn picked up another five-wicket haul to lead South Africa to a 358-run victory over New Zealand in the opening Test at the Wanderers.

Resuming play on the fourth day on 57 for three in pursuit of 531, the tourists got off to the worst possible start when Scott Styris was dismissed without adding to his overnight score of 16.

The wickets continued to tumble, with Steyn's figures of five for 59 coming hot on the heels of his five for 34 in the first innings.

Styris edged a Steyn delivery to wicketkeeper Mark Boucher, and things continued to go downhill for the Kiwis with Brendon McCullum and Michael Papps also out before lunch.

The impressive Steyn picked up his third scalp of the innings when he had McCullum caught at gully by Herschelle Gibbs for 26 and then Papps edged to AB de Villiers at second slip off the bowling of Jacques Kallis for five.

Jacob Oram and Daniel Vettori saw the Black Caps to 148 for six at lunch, but Oram had not added to his interval score of 40 when he chipped a Paul Harris delivery to Andre Nel at deep mid-on.

Steyn completed his 10-wicket haul in the match when he had Iain O'Brien caught off bat and pad at short leg by Hashim Amla and Chris Martin bowled between bat and pads - neither managing to trouble the scorers.

The injured Shane Bond did not bat, meaning nine wickets were enough to secure a comfortable triumph for South Africa.

The second match in the two-Test series begins at Centurion Park on Friday.
